12-Burst Sustained Upload Stability Bars
Measures real sustained upstream throughput (with RTT latency subtracted) against your target stream bitrate.
Stream Doctor OBS Recommendation
Run the 12-burst preflight above (or pick your Spectrum / Cable upload tier) to see your exact safe CBR bitrate and generate a customized basic.ini profile for OBS Studio.
- Asymmetric Cable Friendly: Regular consumer cable (Spectrum 10, 20, 35, and 40–50 Mbps upload) does not need symmetric fiber to get Grade A+! A 6,000 kbps 1080p60 Twitch stream only uses 6.0 Mbps of upload.
- Dynamic Bitrate in OBS: Enable Settings → Advanced → Network → Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion so brief household spikes never drop frames.
Consumer Cable & Asymmetric ISP Upload Guide (Spectrum / Xfinity / Cox)
Most residential gamers have asymmetric download/upload speeds (e.g., 300–1000 Mbps down, 10–40+ Mbps up). Here is what your real-world upload tier safely supports:
| Consumer ISP Upload Tier | Stream Bitrate Used | Remaining Upload for Game + Discord | Max Safe Broadcast | Frame-Drop Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40–50+ Mbps Upload (Spectrum Max / Overprovisioned) | 6.0 Mbps (Twitch) / 16 Mbps (YT) | 34 to 44+ Mbps Spare (85%+ Free!) | 1080p60 / 1440p60 + Multi-Stream | VERY LOW (Grade A+) |
| 35 Mbps Upload (Spectrum Gig / Ultra Coax) | 6.0 Mbps (6,000 kbps CBR) | 29.0 Mbps Spare (83% Free) | 1080p60 (6,000–8,000 kbps) / YT 1440p60 | VERY LOW (Grade A+) |
| 20 Mbps Upload (Spectrum 500 Mbps Plan) | 6.0 Mbps (6,000 kbps CBR) | 14.0 Mbps Spare (70% Free) | 1080p60 (6,000 kbps CBR) | LOW (Grade A+) |
| 10 Mbps Upload (Spectrum 300 Mbps Base Plan) | 5.0–6.0 Mbps (5,000–6,000 kbps) | 4.0–5.0 Mbps Spare (40–50% Free) | 936p60 / 1080p60 (5,500–6,000 kbps) | LOW (Grade A) |
